In a small detached property in Stone, with two, fashion-conscious and popular teenage daughters, Angela and Graeme were tripping over the girls’ bags and belongings and crying out for more space.
The girls were always bringing their lovely but lively school friends home to stay, adding to the clutter, noise and chaos. Although they love the added company, there was nowhere in the house to escape to, so Angie and Graeme never seemed to have a quiet moment to themselves. With a hallway full of shoes, nowhere to hang a coat, a tiny living room area and no space to eat at a table, Graeme sometimes felt that even watching a game of football on TV was impossible, with so many voices going on around him. Not wishing to move away from Angela’s nearby family, nor wanting to disrupt the teenagers’ schooling at a critical time, they also worried that moving to a larger property presented high and unrecoverable moving costs.
Upon recommendation by a friend, they decided to look into improving the home they are in and asked Xtenda for help. Xtenda provided a 2-Phase design, supply and build package for the family, beginning with a single storey extension that was a better utilisation of a previously dark and unmanageable side garden.
This beautiful, new pitched-roof, family sitting room to the side of the house, at last provided a spacious and comfortable viewing area for the teenagers’ much longed for 55” 3D TV. Their new big soft leather corner sofas also meant that family movie nights and Premier League Football Matches would now be much more enjoyable events. Phase 2 of our design was a total reconfiguration to the existing ground floor plan of the property, to solve their space issues and better suit their growing needs.
By reconfiguring the existing downstairs footprint of the house, Xtenda divided the former lounge area into a study room/man-cave for Graeme. At last, he had his own retreat and a quiet area to bring work home to, when needed. Xtenda also created a large separate dining room that would seat all of Angela’s large and extended family. Christmases and Birthday gatherings were going to be a lot more comfortable and pleasant from now on.
“We had a few quotes from other builders, but John’s enthusiasm was infectious. His obvious knowledge and creative eye for adjustments to interior design ideas gave us the opportunity to improve on different living area designs as he went along. That certainly saved us time and money. John and his team worked so hard, at the same time clearly attempting to limit our stress levels by keeping our existing habitable areas in a relatively normal state for as long as possible. Impressively, before the team moved on to a different area, they would tidy up and somehow managed to never leave behind any unnecessary disorganized mess. We have no regrets whatsoever about using Xtenda.”
Whilst we were working on the property, Angela and Graeme asked Xtenda to re-fit their downstairs utility room/guest toilet area. The design and reconfiguration of existing space provided them with a fully refreshed and enlarged downstairs, without compromising too much on their outside space. Angela and Graeme say the house is so well modernised that it is unrecognisable from its original 1960’s layout and they feel this could now be their ‘forever’ home.
